A total of 21,700 swimmers will participate in the open water swim across Sun Moon Lake. 44 th Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival will be held on September 20 and will adopt dual-chip real-name registration for the first time to enhance the identification of the swimmers and safety management. The total number of teams registering was 1,796, and the total number of swimmers was 21,700, including 451 international swimmers, and 23 Taiwan international swimmers in 1983, when Sun Moon Lake swim was held for the first time, has become a star event for open water swimming in Taiwan and attracted swimmers from different countries and Taiwan.

Due to the huge number of open-water swimmers, the dual-chip real-name registration of this year's event will be used to track not only swimmer safety, but also their swimming entry and exit, with sensing equipment and video record to ensure the safety management and prevent leaving the water unsafe, which will be an important change in this year's event. The event has 197 athletes with disabilities that show the diversity of participants, in addition to the swimmers from Taiwan and abroad. It is not only an open water swimming competition, but also an occasion for many participants to challenge themselves in the open water and reach their goals.
