Elisabeth Foley was enjoying a vacation in Santa Rosa Beach when she had a life-threatening incident. A shark attacked her, but she was lucky to survive. However, her lower arm was amputated.

It's been two years since the incident happened, and recently, Foley opened up about the horrific day. It was June 7, 2024, when she was on a summer vacation with her family and was having a good time in the water when, suddenly, a shark attacked them.

"I had this sort of out-of-body experience where I felt that I was going to die, and I called out to God and asked God to please spare my life,” Foley said while recalling the incident.

The shark attacked her legs, and she felt a "searing pain" between her legs. She screamed for help, but as she looked over to her right, she saw a shark "beneath the surface" of the water.

After it shredded her leg, the shark attacked her hand and tried to pull her underwater. But luckily, her husband helped her and pulled her to the shore. They were then helped by people on the beach and quickly rushed for medical care.

Elisabeth Foley spent 63 days in the hospital, with most of them in the ICU. She had 18 surgeries and got a prosthetic arm and relearned how to walk.

While Foley's story is one of resilience and recovery, shark attacks continue to pose a threat along the coast, with another alarming incident reported recently in Panama City.

A Shark Attacked a Worker at NSA-PC MWR Marina

Earlier this week, on Monday morning, a male Navy base employee, who was in his early 20s, was attacked by a shark and suffered severe injuries to his arm. Naval Support Activity Panama City officials shared with News 13 that the man had been working in the area for four years.

He was transported to the Gulf Coast Hospital, but there has not been any update on his medical condition, and his name has not been revealed.

The shark attack was deemed brutal. Back in 2024, on the day Elisabeth Foley was attacked by a shark, there was another shark attack recorded.

Just hours after Foley suffered the incident, two teens were attacked in South Walton County. Out of them, one, named Lulu Gribbin, sustained severe injuries.

The incident involving Gribbin drew widespread attention and sparked discussions about improving public safety measures at beaches.

As a result, "Lulu's Law" was proposed, which seeks to introduce Amber Alert-style notifications to warn beachgoers about shark attacks.
