Lani Pallister is an inspiration for athletes. From struggling with a heart condition to COVID illness, she has fought all to cement her place in the swimming industry.

The Australian swimmer was diagnosed with a supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) in 2021, and for that she underwent surgery. However, in the wake of her suffering, she developed an eating disorder.

Because of the heart condition, her heart rate would spike to 250, and her eyes would go black out. In one of her interviews back in 2022, Pallister opened up about her condition.

“In March, I was diagnosed with SVT, so I had a cardiac ablation. That was the start of a snowball effect. I stopped eating in pursuit of trying to be skinny instead of fit and strong, like the majority of athletes are,” she said (via SwimSwam).

After she developed an eating disorder, it had affected her swimming. However, with help from her coaches, Michael Bohl and Janelle Pallister, she worked on her game.

Following her surgery, Pallister competed at the 2022 Australian Swimming Championships and won the 800 freestyle after finishing the event at 8:17.77.

However, her heart issue is not the only thing Lani Pallister has struggled with. She also had a tough time because of COVID issues.

Lani Pallister Opens Up About COVID illness

Earlier in January, Lani Pallister caught the COVID virus for the fifth time. She opened up about it in an interview with AAP News last week.

“I got COVID in the third week of January, but that hasn’t really affected too much of this part of the season,” Pallister said. “It’s probably my fifth time getting it, which is so random. But I figured: get it done at the start of the year and then it’s out of the way … and I’m happy with where I am at in training at the moment.”

Despite all those challenges, Pallister had some impressive performances at the Australian Trials. She secured her spot for Australia’s Commonwealth Games team after winning the 400 freestyle.

Before that, she struggled with COVID during the Paris Olympics, which forced her to scratch from the 400m freestyle and 1500m events. However, despite the struggle, she helped the Australian team and won gold in the 4×200m freestyle relay.

Throughout her career, Lani Pallister has had health issues, but despite the challenges, she never gave up. She is now focused on Los Angeles 2028.
